Abscissa

Word Nerd:

“the abscissa (horizontal or x-axis) in mathematics is from a Latin phrase meaning ‘cutoff (line),’ and it denotes the part of a line between a point on it and the points of intersection with an ordinate (vertical or y-axis)”

YarnI found this yarn at Big Lots yesterday for only $1.50. I bought the last 2 they had and I am now working on a scarf for myself. In the photo it looks more blue than it does purple, but it does have a hint of purple in it and I love that. When I am done with it I want to try to design a way for me to knit a little skull that I can stitch to it in one corner. I have an idea how I am going to do that, but I am going to hold off until I am done, before I draw it out.

Actors/Actresses That Have Passed

RIP Estelle Getty, mostly remembered from the Golden Girls, who died at 84 years old today. According to MSNBC she actually would have turned 85 on Friday.

Unfortunately she had Dementia, so in a way her passing on in peace at her home might have been a bit of a blessing.

Her passing got me thinking about celebrity deaths in general. With everyone promoting The Dark Knight, there has been a lot of talk about Heath Ledger and his death. Unfortunately I have not seen the new movie yet, but as a huge Batman fan I will be as soon as possible, but thinking of Heath makes me think of something that I had fun looking through recently. It’s from boston.com; a photo show of actors and actresses who have died before their movie could be released. Random Thoughts: Mommy bloggers, the old class?

Before you start wondering, “What the hell?! You are one.” hear me out.

There are mommy bloggers that only blog about life as a parent, then there are people like me who extend into other areas of their life, not always following down the trail of mommy blogger-dom. This thought hit me while I was reading this article on mommy bloggers (one in particular) who has turned their hobby into something more - an income.

I talk about Aubree, but I mostly talk about other aspects of my life. Things I’ve read (such as I am now), things I’ve done, or just something that happened to cross my fancy. I really am not much of a mommy blogger so much as a blogger who happens to be mom.

Why I don’t use this time to write about just my family would be because blogging is my general escape. It’s my world outside of my life. I am allowed to have opinions on things that have happened in the world, here.

I can think about things, such as what makes a mom a mommy blogger.

I do enjoy reading mommy blogs such as the one shown in the article I linked to. Damn them for having interesting lives, that’s for sure. Nothing all that thrilling happens here, as a mom, for me to write about. If I depended solely on family experiences, I would only blog once or twice a month. I know, because I did try to create a mommy blog, and failed miserably.

So I guess my question is… am I any less of a mommy blogger because I don’t write 99% about family things, or am I just a new generation of mommy blogger that is pushing the boundaries and creating a world outside the mommy blogger world? No more family posts, mostly mentions of things that mean something to us and the occasional family tidbit.

Just a thought. I respect all bloggers for finding a passion and running with it. I just can’t help but wonder…

I think I am going to go and knit a little before I go to sleep. It’s only half an hour until 11, so I can get a few rows in. Nothing is more relaxing then enjoying a little knitting before bed. :) Until tomorrow…
