Abracadabra

This is a picture of a swan and some seagulls sitting at the park. There’s no sea of course, but they have their fair share of french fries, bread and other things that people throw at them. I would have loved a closer shot of the swan, that’s what I was going for. Swans are hardly ever alone, they usually come in pairs.

Today’s Word Nerd quote:
“abracadabra derives from the Gnostic term Abraxus, Greek for ‘almighty God,’ which the Gnostics used to call up power; the supreme deity of the Assyrians was called with this term as a charm against ague and flux; the word abracadabra was arranged in an inverted pyramid amulet with one less letter on each line and as the letters disappeared so also (supposedly) did disease or trouble”

Normally I would do a blog update post to say something like this but I figured it couldn’t hurt to make a full entry.
I want to take a new approach to WAHM Saturday. From now on instead of posting press releases I am going to take the time to scan each press release for important information on each wahm business or website and write about it here for myself with a link back to the original release.
I want to keep WAHM Saturday to something with more unique content to Demandez than just the spotlight. Hopefully when you stop in tomorrow you like they new way I spotlight these women and their businesses. If it continues going well, I would like to expand it to include others. WAHM Saturday, possibly WAHD Sunday? I’ve got a few ideas floating around in my head and I am considering them all.

My independent contracting work has been keeping me very busy. I’ve found that no matter how hard I concentrate on my work, with mom around it’s nearly impossible to move at full speed. Not to complain because she has a 2 days off every week but if I was to narrow it down, I think the biggest reason is because she won’t let me play my music out loud. I have an MP3 player with a built-in speaker. I set it up and let it play while I work and my ability to concentrate on the task at hand increases 10 fold. If she’s home and I play my music as I do every day while I work, she complains insistently until I put in the headphones. Normally that wouldn’t be such a big deal except who can stand having ear buds in their ears for long periods of time? It starts to irritate my ears so I have to take them out.
Most people would think that working while taking care of a child at the same time would be the problem, but it really is not. It’s easy to handle the things Aubree needs because she can entertain herself for a period of time and ask me things when she needs something. I take breaks and spend those moments with her. Working with a child around is a process I mastered. Working with my mom home, not so much.

I am continuing to promote my writing services as a writer-for-hire at Write To Press. I am hoping I’ll be able to bring in some work. I am probably going to write a new press release for my website and release it soon. Especially since I’ve changed up on what services I am trying to sell myself for.
I originally had it set where I was promoting my services for writing press releases and such. I’ve expanded it so that people will be able to see I am open to all forms of writing. Now that I have my own computer, my availability has opened up a lot more.

That’s about it for today. I’ll be back tomorrow for the WAHM Saturday posts. Have a good weekend! Until later.
