Beware Of Kimkins

Back when the Mike and Juliet morning show first talked about it, I saw that episode.  And I had to wonder why these people hadn’t used their common sense to realize that this diet really couldn’t be healthy.  But of course as a big girl, I could understand how it feels to want to lose weight.  Especially considering I’m doing my part to try to lose weight in a healthy way.

When they replayed the interview on Mike and Juliet again today, I decided to look up what people were saying about it.  I was interested, and more so because I thought it might be a good idea to be a voice that can help expose this con-diet.  And I found that about.com, one of my favorite resources, has a huge article and time line about this diet and I would like to share it with you.

If you were considering the Kimkins diet and you stumbled upon this entry in the google search engine, please go to about.com and see the truth about this unhealthy diet.

Before I go, I hope everyone has a safe new year!

A Year In Review

I thought it’d be fun to do a “year in review” type thing with trivia over at Trivucation. The first question will be up tomorrow if you’d like to check it out.  The questions will be super easy.  For example, the last question of the week will be one of 4 choices as the answer:

Scooter Libby
Bicycle Libby
Moped Libby
Car Libby

I would bet that you know that answer, without the question.

Beyond that, their really isn’t all that much going on that’s exciting.  I do have a lot to do today, though.  So I’m going to end this here.  I’ll be back tomorrow, most likely.

Woe Is Me

Well, not really but I couldn’t think of a good title for this post.

I came kind of close to quitting my new job on Wednesday. My boss compared me to the woman whose job I took over, and how great she was at her job. And I really wanted to mention that she was good at her job, when she’d show up for work. But I didn’t. I did however end up crying, really ticked off because I am doing my damnedest to get everything done. I guess the clock doesn’t agree with me. It’s very frustrating.

Yesterday was better, though. I only went 5 minutes over 9:30 and I left before he even locked the doors. I’m still at least a 1/2 hour behind “Bonnie” and her gas station greatness. I’m working on it, though. I am determined to not give up. I like the job, and I want to keep it.

Beyond that, nothing is really new. I’m not exciting. I do have today and the weekend off work. I do have to work New Years Eve, though. That is going to suck because I could almost bet that I’m going to be stocking way too many 30 packs of beer. They’re heavy.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Happy Holidays!

It’s Christmas so I had to get pictures of Aubree opening presents, as you can see. Feel free to check out all of my photos over at Flickr. If you want to see anything with me or Aubree in it, add me and if I have a hint of who you are, I’ll add you back. I won’t add strangers to my friends, though.

What Aubree opened today isn’t all of her presents. I gave her most of her gifts before christmas and mom want to wait until tomorrow to give her the things from her so she can be home to see her open them. Tomorrow is her day off.

Speaking of days off, I don’t have to work today. It means I’ll only have a 3 day week, but I’m kind of glad to have it off. Not because of the holiday but because my knee is acting up and it hurts for me to stand to long right now. Hopefully it will be better by tomorrow night.

Okay, as for my glasses, I have to get an all new eye exam and so on. Boo. It’ll cost me over a $100 for the eye exam, cheapo frames and lenses. I’ve gotta wait until I have enough cash to pay for it all. Thankfully that industrial strength craft glue seems to be holding it together quite well. Hopefully it can last until I get the glasses. It probably won’t be until the first or second week of next month.

I got my MP3 player yesterday. I am thrilled. It rocks. I love it. I got a couple of my CDs on it as well as some MP3’s I downloaded. I want to get some more music today to put on it. Especially since I don’t have to work tonight I have that little bit of extra time to download a few songs today.

And in some more good news, I also got the package a friend sent to me. She gave Aubree a cute stuffed monkey and she gave me a very nice stationary with matching envelopes set. I love it! :)

I hope you got all that you could want this holiday season!

My Glasses Broke

My lovely, lovely daughter smacked me in the face yesterday and that broke the arm off my glasses.

After a lot of crying and being angry over not having insurance so I’d have to buy new glasses at their very expensive prices, I thought of super glue. Mom has this industrial strength craft glue in her sewing box, so I got it out and glued the arm back on my glasses. It looks really bad, but I didn’t have much choice considering my old glasses gave me a migraine to wear.

I don’t know how long this glue will hold my glasses together, so I need to buy myself a new pair asap. I’m going to do it with my paycheck today.

Beyond all that, Nutang is up and running again. I went and posted there yesterday. I’m very happy to have that blog back, although I am not going to stick to posting 100 words a day there. It is nice to have that great community of people to see again.

While I am thinking of it, my MP3 should be showing up today. I’ve gotten some free MP3’s off the net that I plan to put on my new MP3 player asap. Yay!

Until tomorrow, take care!

The Show Must Go On

My last official day on the job has come and gone, and I’m still very much working there.  It appears that I won’t be temporary anymore.  The woman who hadn’t shown up hasn’t bothered to call our boss and talk to him.  All she would have needed to keep her job was a note from her mother’s doctor stating that she was indeed dying since that was her whole reason for not showing up for work.  She has no excuse for not calling in.  Most people suspect that she’s lying because she is notorious for not showing up to work.

As for me, I am still about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes slower than I’m supposed to be.  I am getting faster, thank goodness, but not fast enough.  The thing is, I am doing my absolute best.  The only break I take is to drink some water in between tasks.  I’m moving as fast as I can, and that is getting a little faster everyday thankfully.  With exception of those days where we get a huge order and I have extra things to stock.  Like when we’re out of stuff on some rows so I have to spend extra time stocking that section full.  Otherwise it’s easier to move fast when I can get around all those darn boxes.  Sometimes it calls for unique bending to get to some of the things so I can reach the large cases of beer, etc.

Like I said before, I am doing my best.  I have managed to cut down my time in the cooler to approximately an hour and 15 minutes, I was around an hour and 45 minutes.  All the while I am doing my best to do a good job.

So if I disappear, just remember it’s because I’m probably working and my mom is home that day so I can’t get on during  the day.  Then when I get home at night, I go straight to doing my work-from-home things.  I’ll be around this weekend, I’m sure.  But just to cover my butt, Have a great weekend!

My Last “Official” Day

Mop and BucketI won’t get a chance later on what is now considered today and I probably won’t have time to do this tomorrow. So I thought I’d make a quick blog entry now.

Today was my official last day working at the gas station. I am very sad about that because I liked the job. I had moments where I doubted myself. But I liked working. I liked getting out of the house. I enjoyed getting away from Aubree just long enough for me to keep my sanity. Most of all, I liked having to face the public.

Most people know I’m not usually a people person, but I’ve changed a lot from the misanthrope I was in high school.  If you knew me then, then you know that already.  If you didn’t, then you would never believe it to see me now. People don’t scare me, and I don’t hold anger towards everyone anymore.  I like being social now, something I never was before.  And working makes me continue it.

Another great thing I enjoyed about working was all the work.  That’s right, from the stocking to the mopping.  That’s a form of exercise.  It’s good for me, and I loved it.

I hope everyone will keep their fingers crossed for me in hopes that I will be called in and get to keep the job as a permanent position.

Even if I don’t, at least I learned some new things that I can use in the future if I’m ever to work in a store.

The Next Step To An MP3 Player

I bought an MP3 player. I know most people in the world have already changed to them. Only I hadn’t.

Funny thing is, I was one of the last people to own a cd player when I was a kid. Now I am one of the last people to own an MP3 player. And it’s not even a name brand.

The MP3 player I’m buying is the white one to the left. The black was not an option when I purchased it yesterday. Click on the image and you can see the page where I bought it at overstock.com.

It only cost me $39.99, which I think isn’t too bad. I didn’t even have to pay for shipping because it was free. I think Overstock was having some deal of some sort with the free shipping. Either way, it was kind of nice not having to pay the extra shipping cost. It can be a bit pricey depending on where you go through.

Some of the cool things my new MP3 player will be coming with:

  • Digital Voice Recording
  • Built-in FM Radio
  • Built-in 1GB flash memory
  • Playing Time: Over 8 Hours (Continuously)
  • Erase-and-write Cycle: Over 100,000 Times
  • Professional Stereo Earphones
  • Travelers Power Adaptor

That’s just a few of the things that stuck out to me. In particular is the thing I bolded. Many of the MP3 players I’ve seen I found out through a friend will not allow you to delete any of the songs. So the song will stay on your MP3 player permanently. This one will allow me to delete a song if I don’t like it, at least. Or if I want to delete a few songs so I can upload some new songs.

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!
Also, while I’m thinking about it, I wrote about a new search engine that’s run by yahoo that will donate to the charity of your choice for using it. If you go to one of their participating stores, the store will also donate to that charity a percentage of what you spend. I support the Franklin Learning Center which is an alternative high school, a school where if you have a child, you can still finish high school because they offer daycare for those people. It’s also adult education, my mom went there. And we can’t forget the preschool they also have. If it wasn’t for Franklin, many people like me wouldn’t have been able to finish high school and so I find them to be the place I would like to see money get donated to. If you’d like to check out GoodSearch, click the image to the right. If I was Martha Stewart, I’d have to say it was a “good thing.”  I hope you’ll consider changing your search engine to use this.  Anyway, if you’d ever considered donating to a charity, but couldn’t afford it, this is a great way to do that without it having to cost you anything.  Just a little change.

I would like to note that if you make a bunch of searches on there that are just your attempt at raising the amount your charity earns, not legit attempts to find information, it can cause your charity to be unlisted.  So make sure you search responsibly.

Haha, that almost sounded like a drinking campaign.  Anyway, I need to get going.  I’ve got more than enough to get done today.  Have a great day everyone.

We’ve Been Dumped

I got the pleasure of waking up yesterday to find a lot of snow on the ground. Over a foot in most places. I took Aubree outside and let her play in it while I shoveled part of the driveway, and she had a blast. Most of the snow came up to her hips and it was funny watching her try to walk through it.

I didn’t have nearly as much fun considering my shoulder was in extreme pain from how heavy the snow was.  In some spots I had to shovel it away in layers.  It was pretty bad.

The funniest part of it all, though, I’d have to say was trying to walk back to the house.  It took a good 15 minutes to get Aubree to walk back to the house.  She kept falling in the deep spots in the snow.

Before we went in, I couldn’t resist a moment to make a snow angel of course.  Aubree still doesn’t quite have down how to make one, but I showed her how anyway.  Or at least that’s my excuse for dropping down into the snow and making one.

I go back to work tonight.  Actually today and tomorrow are my last two days until further notice.  I’m a little nervous because the owner will be back on Tuesday.

I hope not everyone got hit as badly as me with the snow, but if you did I hope you enjoyed yourself.

Nutang Mystery Solved

First let me say that when I checked nutang I went to my individual blog page and when it didn’t work I’d move on to the next thing I needed to do for the day.  This time I went to the main nutang page and it has a message letting everyone know that they have been hacked.

The guy who runs nutang is on vacation so it will not be back until he has the time to get it up.  He did mention in the note found on the main page that all the information was recovered, thank goodness.

I just hope nutang is back on it’s feet soon, I really miss the great community over there.  I don’t think I’ll be doing 100 words every day anymore, but I will definitely be there to write when I can.

I have the next 3 days off before I go back to work on Monday.  I am a bit excited, but I think in a way I am a bit bummed about not working.  I only work 3 hours a day at this point, I would like to work every day if I could. Heck, it’s almost like exercising for 3 hours a day with all the bending, lifting and stretching.  Not to mention the mopping.  It works on muscles I don’t get to work on any other day.

I made $90 yesterday.  :)  I sold an ad spot which was nice.  That’s some much needed extra money.  Put it towards tax time.

Well, it’s time for me to run.  Have a great Friday and a great weekend in case I don’t write tomorrow.
